Based on the uncertainty surrounding the timing of the state‚Äôs reopening guidelines and limitations around large gatherings, the University will not be able to effectively plan for an August commencement ceremony for our May 2020 graduates. Therefore, we are moving forward to determine whether an in-person ceremony that will comply with state guidelines can occur in December. We expect to finalize plans by the end of September.

The following "Faculty Attendance" motion was passed at the April 17, 2002 Faculty Council meeting:

Commencement is held twice a year, in the fall and spring semesters.  As a professional responsibility and as a show of support for students, all tenured and tenure-track faculty are encouraged to attend both ceremonies; but at a minimum, faculty members are expected to attend one commencement ceremony a year.  Each department will be responsible for developing a plan for implementing the policy.

LINE-UP:  Faculty will line up in the Northwest corner of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC).  You may enter the building through any entrance.  Signs will direct you to the faculty line up area.  To avoid waiting in line with guests, you may also enter through the south entrance.  The Northwest line up area requires you to descend a flight of stairs to process into the arena.  If you have accessibility needs, you may enter the building through the loading dock entrance and wait in the loading dock area for the procession to begin.

SECURITY: Leave all bags in your car.  Security checks with metal detectors will be conducted at entry points.  Allow for extra time.   Arrive at the SAC one hour prior to your ceremony.
