Will in-person commencement ceremonies be held for May 2021 graduates?

UNC Charlotte will host in-person commencement ceremonies in the Jerry Richardson Football Stadium May 13, 14 and 15.

When is my commencement ceremony?

Below are the dates and times for each ceremony. It is essential that you attend the ceremony assigned to your college; you will not be able to switch with another graduate.

Do I have to RSVP for my commencement ceremony?

Graduates are required to RSVP by Wednesday, April 14 through the Google form that they received via email on April 6 if they will be participating in their commencement ceremony. Graduates who do not respond will not be assigned a seat number. 

How many guest tickets will I be able to reserve? 

In accordance with current COVID-19 public health guidelines, all graduates will be able to reserve three guest tickets, which will be grouped together by graduate with assigned consecutive seat numbers. All guests must sit in their assigned seats. Children 2 years old and under may sit on a person’s lap. Ticket information will be sent to graduates the week of April 26.

Will the commencement ceremonies be live streamed?

Yes. All of the commencement ceremonies will be live streamed and recorded.

Will there be an in-person commencement ceremony held for the Class of 2020?

A special graduation ceremony will be held for the Class of 2020 on Thursday, May 13, at 6 p.m. in the Jerry Richardson Football Stadium. Members of the Class of 2020 are required to RSVP by Wednesday, April 14 through the Google form they received via email on April 6 if they will be participating in their commencement ceremony. Graduates who do not respond, will not be assigned a seat number.

When can I order my cap and gown? 

Students who apply for May 2021 graduation may submit their cap and gown order online through Oak Hall beginning Monday, March 22. If you plan to attend the ceremony, you MUST order by Friday, April 25. The last day to place an order is Friday,
May 28. Students will be notified through their UNC Charlotte email when the order link is available. Only orders placed with a UNC Charlotte email address can be processed.

Is there an additional fee for my cap and gown?

There is no additional cost for your cap and gown (and hood, if applicable). If you are graduating with Latin Honors (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude) you may purchase your honor cord with Oak Hall. Doctoral candidates may also purchase custom regalia.

What happens if there is inclement weather the day of my commencement ceremony?

All of the commencement ceremonies will be held in the Jerry Richardson Football Stadium. These outdoor ceremonies will be held rain or shine. If lightning is in the area, the ceremony will be canceled.

If state and local COVID-19 guidelines change, will the format of commencement change?

We are planning for our commencement ceremonies based on current public health guidance. If local or state guidelines change, we will modify our plans accordingly. We will continue to keep you informed and update the commencement website with the latest information.
